Go Fish

Daryl Cagle’s Cartoon Web Log reports that Mr. Fish—a.k.a., Dwayne Booth, a political cartoonist for the Village Voice and LA Weekly—has been laid-off as a cost-saving measure.

I confess to mixed feelings. On the one hand, political cartoonists are vibrant contributors to social and political commentary, and I hate to see them getting axed during this economic downturn.

On the other hand, under the rubric of being a “fearless provocateur,” Mr. Fish has published alot of offensive garbage, such this inexcusable alteration of an image of Holocaust victims to criticize Israel:

Daryl Cagle wonders about Mr. Fish’s future: “Where does a radically left-leaning political cartoonist go to piss off powerful people and to document the rage and contempt of liberal-minded loud-mouths and vengeful humanitarians?”

Based upon the above cartoon, I’d say a promising career awaits in European and Middle Eastern newspapers.
